The Asparagus Harvester - Online Marketing of a new product .

By now the effects of age were becoming evident. Most of my air cylinders weren't working and there were some other problems.  There were some bugs in the improvements we had implemented etc.

Even so, my demonstration of the harvester to the Washington State researchers was impressive enough that the University gave me enough money to fix up the harvester a bit and transport it to and from Pasco Washington for the next spring season. Spring of 2003.

Although we had some problems with the machine...bugs in some changes I had made... it was working well enough that the University is again providing some funding for me to make some final changes (hopefully they are final) and run the machine again in the spring of 2004.  I've got my fingers crossed!

Washington State University's website has a page about the asparagus harvester and it too has a video clip of the asparagus harvester in operation.  Here is a link to the page: http://www.agribusiness-mgmt.wsu.edu/AgbusResearch/asp_selective_harvester03.htm

The mechanical harvesting of asparagus is the ultimate niche market.  Very few people search for asparagus harvesters, but the ones that do will certainly see my site.  It was number one on page one of most of the search engines last time I checked.

Not much traffic but it is certainly well targeted.  Every once in a while I get an email requesting information on the harvester. We really aren't quite ready to sell them yet. Hopefully by the end of the season in Pasco this year, I will have some orders.

Once I know the machine is working well enough to be marketable, I will engage in some other forms of online marketing, like joining news groups, advertising on e-zines, and in other online media.

Hope you enjoyed the Saga of the Asparagus Harvester.  :)
